I'm meeting Julia Jones and her mum in Story Shack this morning and I'm very excited. I'm hoping to put on a nautical theme very soon so keep in touch for the latest.
Julia is the author of the STRONG WINDS TRILOGY you see above. These are real page turners with lots of cliff hangers (or cling holders aptly re named by a Year 2 pupil when talking about good reads in school). For sailors-and therefore "Swallows and Amazons" fans- and non sailors these really are worth the read. Julia is local and so are the books themselves. The adventures take place mostly on the River Orwell. They are so much more than sailing adventures though with very sensitive writing of one boy's experience of the social care and foster care system as he struggles against some pretty nasty characters.
It's a great read on so many levels...in fact now I've popped the pics up I think I'll go off to the Shack for some re summer reading.
Of course, if you'd like to know about the rivers explored in the STRONG WINDS TRILOGY I have to draw your attention to East Coast Rivers. This cruising companion was started by my Grandad, Jack Coote and continues thanks to my mum-Janet Harber.
'Strong winds trilolgy', a copy of the latest edition of 'East Coast rivers', a bottle of grog and if you ever sailed with my grandad a couple of pork pies as well and you can't go wrong on the river! Well perhaps unless you don't believe the depth you're at or in echo sounders at all!!
